The OsteoSoy® difference
What the nutrients in OsteoSoy® can do for you...
Our scientists have formulated a dietary supplement designed to support the needs of todays woman. Far from just another calcium supplement, OsteoSoy® provides 12 specific vitamins and minerals that work synergistically with its two bioavailable forms of calcium to promote healthy bones. OsteoSoy® also contains special standardized extracts of some of the worlds foremost traditional female herbs. These rare botanicals contain natural compounds (phytoestrogens) which can help to promote a womans optimum hormonal balance. This is important, since high estrogen levels are associated with certain cancers, and low estrogen levels with osteoporosis. Among all leading womens supplements, only OsteoSoy®s comprehensive system of vitamins, minerals and plant phytoestrogens is able to provide the nutritional support a woman needs to help adapt to the many changes her body will undergo through various stages in life!
With these ideals in mind, OsteoSoy® provides:
Isoflavones:
Japanese women have one-fifth the breast cancer rate of American women. It has been proposed that this may be a direct result of their high dietary intake of soy foods. The soybean contains powerful phytoestrogens called isoflavones. One daily dosage of OsteoSoy® contains the isoflavone equivalent of 6 oz. of tofu, which is twice the average intake of Asian women with the lowest breast cancer rate, and is 60 times the average American daily soy quota. With further testing already underway, preliminary research has shown that isoflavones may provide additional nutritional support related to womens health.
The same powerful genistein and daidzein isoflavones found in the soybean also occur in the kudzu vine, another time-honored Chinese medicinal herb. OsteoSoy® provides the benefits of both of these natural protectors.
Minerals:
- Calcium: Hydroxyapatite and calcium Citrimal® (a patented compound of calcium and three organic acids) are highly bioavailable forms of calcium. Studies indicate that microcrystalline hydroxyapatite is a superior form of calcium because it is the actual form in which it is incorporated into bone. Research also suggests that our bodies may use calcium Citrimal® (calcium citrate malate glycinate) more readily than other ordinary sources of calcium.
With over 18% of the calcium in our bones being replaced each year, it is important to get the recommended 1,000 mg of bioavailable calcium every day. Studies show that calcium improves bone healing and limits bone loss.
- Magnesium: Of the 20 to 28 grams of magnesium in our bodies, about 59% is contained in the skeleton. It is essential in balancing calcium, in converting vitamin D to its active form, and in carrying calcium into and out of bone cells.
- Trace minerals: Zinc, copper and manganese are essential in bone calcification and formation, and in the maintenance of connective tissue, especially cartilage. In a study at the University of California, San Diego, postmenopausal women who received calcium together with zinc, copper and manganese lost less bone density than women receiving only calcium, only trace minerals, or placebo.
- Silicon: Silicon promotes the mineralization of bones and teeth and promotes synthesis of collagen, an important protein component of healthy bone and radiant skin. Levels of silicon are known to decrease with age.
- Boron: Recent government research indicates that boron plays a role in balancing calcium, in the production of estrogen, and in converting vitamin D into its active form. An important study of postmenopausal women showed that boron supplementation helped prevent calcium loss and general bone demineralization.
Vitamin co-factors:
- Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for proper bone formation and for mineral absorption. In elderly people, the capacity of the body to synthesize vitamin D is only half that of younger people.
- Vitamin K: Vitamin K is necessary in order to hold calcium and other minerals in place in the bone. A recent study showed that adequate vitamin K levels may help to minimize calcium loss in osteoporosis patients.
- B Vitamins: Vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid help reduce homocysteine levels, which are increased in postmenopausal women. Homocysteine is thought to interfere with normal collagen production. Elevated homocysteine levels have been associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease. Additionally, healthful diets with adequate folic acid may reduce a womans risk of having a child with a brain or spinal cord birth defect.
Standardized herbal extracts:
Studies indicate that as many as one half of premenopausal women suffer from PMS symptoms, ranging from breast tenderness and abdominal bloating to depression and severe anxiety. As women experience menopause, nearly 75% suffer from hot flashes, mood swings, depression or vaginal irritation serious enough to warrant a visit to the doctor. Hormonal imbalances are believed to be a primary causative factor in many of these symptoms.
- Chaste berry: Leading scientists propose that chaste berry may be beneficial in addressing womens nutritional concerns related to PMS and menopausal symptoms. It contains the phytoestrogens vitexicarpin and vitricin, which may be responsible for its effectiveness.
- Dong quai: Dong quai root contains a phytoestrogen known as ligustilide, to which its effects are largely attributed. Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine have recognized dong quai for thousands of years as one of the most versatile womens herbs to help address menstrual disorders, irregularities, infertility and PMS.
- Licorice root: Licorice root has enjoyed a long history of use in Asia as well as in Europe and North America. Although licorice is most famous for the confection we make from it, the root also contains important phytoestrogens. One study indicates that it may be useful in addressing the problems associated with ovulation.
