The Cheeseburger Bill, Obesity, Making Excuses and Casting Blame!
I saw the following headline today: House Votes to Block Class Action Lawsuits Blaming Food Industry for Obesity.
The US House voted Wednesday to shield fast-food chains from lawsuits that blame them for making people fat.
Nicknamed the "cheeseburger bill," the measure stems from lawsuits accusing McDonald's of causing obesity in tens of thousands of children. The food industry has asked Congress and state legislatures to protect it from liability, and so far, 21 states have agreed.
"You cannot litigate personal choices and lifestyles," said Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich.
Think about how terrible it is that we have to even consider this legislation. This country is based on freedom, even if it's the freedom to get fat and stupid. And the people that would sue these restaurants in reality want to erode our freedoms as individuals. And don't think these people are do-gooders, for the most part they are greedy opportunists, looking to fleece the fast food industry like they did the tobacco industry.
America was founded by strong individuals who came here from all over the world, and they weren’t looking for an excuse only for an opportunity. Now we have a whole group of people in government, law, medicine and a number of areas looking for an opportunity in making excuses and placing blame for peoples failures on some other person, place or thing. It’s never the individuals fault. This kind of thinking only handicaps people. Instead of encouraging people to overcome obstacles and be the best they can be, making excuses only weakens people and prevents people from being the best they would be. But there are always less than honest people who see this as an area in which to profit from other peoples misery and the worse part is, making excuses only continues the misery.
We all know people tend to accomplish more in any endeavor when they are encouraged to do more.
What would be the result if your kid came home from school with a bad report card and instead of getting on his case telling them they could do better you made excuses for the kid like. “It’s not your fault the teacher doesn’t like you” or “You have a bad home environment.”
One of the biggest entertainment industries in this country is professional sports. In this industry people don’t pay to see excuses and place blame only to get results.
If you paid good money to get your car fixed and it wasn’t would you accept the excuse that my mechanic was out late drinking, no you simply want your car fixed.
