I had an interesting conversation with my brother-in-law Tim today. First he was relating how much better he was feeling after taking Himalayan Goji Juice for only 3 days. Tim had been very skeptical about taking the product for 6 months at least prior to finally agreeing to drink it. This was in part at least to different people telling him it would probably be of no value to drink.


What was interesting was Tim was going on about how he was mad that these people wouldn't acknowledge that the Goji Juice may have benefited him. They told him it was probably in his head.

But in analysis I said I'm not really surprised, it was probably a natural reaction on their part. Unless we ourselves were totally unselfish our natural reactions would probably be the same.

Here is what I've noticed in general about people who are negative about a product or idea.

First it could be simple protection mode, our first natural instinct is survival. For example if you have a method or way you have been doing something and you have been doing it that way for a number of years, there is always going to be resistance to change. Something new could be a threat to your business. It some cases it can put whole industries out of business. Take for example the record business when the CD came out.

Second can be pride, who (especially a highly educated person) wants to admit that something simple could possibly help a person more than all their years of education.

Third consider this - if you had a business making buggy whips you would probably be real negative toward the first automobiles that came out. You just might feel a real threat to your pocket book.

So the next time you hear someone (regardless of the area) they work in be negative toward some new discovery or innovation just consider all of the above reasons. This could help explain their reaction.
