Oldest American Dies, Rarely Visits Doctors plus Goji Juice Info

I was reading the other day that the oldest American a woman named Verona Johnston had died at 114 years old.

"Relatives said Johnston lived a wholesome life, rarely visited doctors and never used the deductible on her health insurance policy. The secretary at her doctor's office said Johnston had the thinnest file on record."

I found this quite interesting that a woman this age had "…the thinnest file on record." In others words this woman didn’t depend on doctors to keep her healthy. She took responsibility for her own health.

This is not unusual, when you study the oldest living people on earth they also seem to share this same trait of taking care of themselves instead of depending on doctors. This is not a knock on doctors, as they serve a worthwhile function, however our health is our own responsibility first - not our doctors.

Of course we think that 114 years old is very old here in America and it is. However, did you know that in some remote places in this world, a life expectancy of more than 100 years is not uncommon?

Research has shown that many of the world's longest living people consume regular daily helpings of a tiny red fruit that may just be the world's most powerful anti-aging nutrition health food—the goji berry.

If you have not yet heard of goji, you are not alone. While it has occupied an important place in traditional Asian medicine for countless generations, the secrets of its nutritional benefits have remained a mystery to most of the world.

The History of the Goji Berry

During the Tang Dynasty (around 800 AD), a well had been dug beside a wall near a famous Buddhist temple that was covered with goji vines. Over the years, countless berries had fallen into the well. Those who prayed there had the ruddy complexion of good health, and even at the age of eighty they had no white hair and had lost no teeth, simply because they drank the water from the well. From this legend, a poem was crafted. (Notice the poet lived to 120)

"The Well of Youthful Living – a cool well beside the monk’s house, a clear spring feeds the well and the water has great powers, emerald green leaves grow on the wall, the deep red berries shine like cooper, the flourishing branch like a walking stick, the old root in a dog’s shape signals good fortune, the goji nourishes the body and spirit, drink of the well and enjoy a long life."
Tang Dynasty Poet Liu Yuxi (722 – 842 AD)
